| Does anyone still read this thing anymore? I mean if I were to post, would you see? :P Well I served a mission from November 2009-April 2004 in the Philippines in region 8 around Tacloban. That explains my absence for a couple of years. I'm also in the Dietetics program at BYU as of now. Yay! School is interesting, but I always feel behind on the reading. For that reason, I'll stop blogging now and do some studying. :P | | |
| This is turning into a monthly blog. Bah!! But on that note, I don't think there is a lot to note about my life right now. School is going on as normal... that independent study class I had has not progressed at ALL and now I'm just thinking I should not care about the money I spent on it (sunk cost right?) and just take the class later with an actual classroom setting. (The class expires in October, that's why.) As for statistics, I got a 100% and a 95% on my first two tests! I might actually get an A! Its funny because As are just ridiculous since you have to get at least a 94% for those 4.0 points. 89% to 93% or something is an A-, which only consititutes 3.7 points. o_O
I'm also in an Art class, I don't know if I mentioned that. We've looked at Horizontal-Vertical relationships, which helps you draw ANYTHING in proportion, point perspective (I drew a hallway~), and now we're working on Value, which is basically shading in the amount of light and darkness on an item. I've NEVER worked with value before, so it was a little more difficult for me to grasp at first I think. I have a lot of drawings to do this week though, to catch up on my sketchbook.
Jessie and Emily are coming up to visit Eva and I!! I'm so excited. :) They're coming in on Tuesday and we're gonna plaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
For those interested in my lack of a love life, the guy I've been interested in for the past couple months was completely crushing on Marissa, who did not return the affections. So our group of friends don't really hang out as much anymore. There was of course, a lot more drama than that concerning more people, but most of that drama was with Marissa. And it's not her fault... half the boys here are just in love with her. ;) Summer term is coming to an end in three weeks though, and then I'll be heading home.
Last week I met with my Stake President to finish my mission interview. All of this has been a crazy spiritual high, and now that my mission application is actually IN, everything feels surreal. I'm not a perfect person, but I know I've had experiences that have helped me come to this decision. This is what I should be doing!
And now I'm justing waiting for my mission call to come in the mail, and I'll know the details on where I'll be serving and when I need to report to the MTC (Missionary Training Center).
| I suppose a lot has happened since my last post. I am now in Summer term over here, and I'm currently taking Introduction to Statistics, an Introduction to drawing class, and an independent study Microbiology class. I'm having a lot of fun because I'm taking the Stat class online, and my independent study class is pretty much online and reading. I only have to go up to campus on Wednesday and Friday evenings starting at 4 for my art class. :)
And also... I am not working now! YAY. Because of my independent study class, I'm technically taking 9.5 credits, which is like taking 19 credits over a semester. I have some money saved up, so I'm just going to school for this term. I also finally got my associates degree to transfer over, so all my generals are fufilled except for some English class that I'll have to take at some point.
Yesterday was a really great Sunday. A girl in our ward spoke about lifting each other up by using a bucket full of water analogy. But even before that, while the sacrament was being passed I was comtemplating and praying and I felt a wonderful reassurance that going on a mission is a great choice for me. I had been feeling a little down lately because I've developed a crush on a guy in our friend group and I can't tell if hes even interested. For a while we all thought that he liked one of my roommates, but now we're not so sure. It's a silly thing to think about, considering I'm going to be gone for a year and a half in a couple months. But I don't intend to shut myself off either. It would be better to live life normally until I leave. But the reassurance I felt helped put things into perspective for me. It's also reafirmed the strength in my beliefs.
I'm going to have my mission interview next week with the Bishop, and then hopefully I will interview with the Stake president the same week. If all goes well, my mission papers should be submitted near the end of the week of July 5th. It usually takes about 2 weeks to get the call afterwards, and then I'll know where and when I'm going.
I am definitely going to be home for about two weeks in Long Beach. The rest of the time at home will be determined on when I'm going into the MTC (the Missionary Training Center).
I'm really excited and anxious. :)
But I best be off now, to do some statistics studying.~
| I ended up getting about an 80% total on my chemistry test, which is the combined multiple choice and write-in portions. My goal is to get above 85% so I was a little disappointed from this test, but it seems like I actually was above the average of the class. I suppose it'll work out. The class is going to end up being curved up a bit at the end of the term anyway.
2trick recently announced on his LiveJournal that Haruhi Suzumiya was on season 2!! That really made me sooo happy! :) I'm really excited to follow the new episodes to come! <3
This morning Greta, Marissa and I all got up before 6 AM to get ready to take a trip to the Hot Springs in Spanish Fork. :) We had invited a bunch of other people to come, and so we ended up with about 10 people going. We drove south to Uitana National Forest and took a while to find the Three Forks trail head. Twice, we stopped on the way just because we weren't sure if we were going the right way. We didn't actually find anyone to help us, but we ended up getting there alright. The hike itself took about 40 minutes to get up to the Hot Springs. We could smell the sulfur long before we were even close to it. We soaked for about an hour before heading back down the mountain.
After a nice shower and a lovely 2-3 hour nap, Brady and Alex and us roomies all went to an Island grill for dinner. :) I remembered that Rubios have the BEST fish tacos. I got a steak bowl with brown rice. It was a different experience eating brown rice because it seemed like a combination of rice and barley.
Afterwards, we went by the parking lot where a lot of people from the ward were playing "Ninja destruction!". I'll put the rules here, just because its so fun to play I thought I should share it. Everyone stands in a circle and that circle sequence determines whose turn it is. One person starts by attacking a person with one movement, usually by swinging your arm at them. The aim is to hit the other person's hand with your hand, thereby rendering their hand/arm useless in battle! You can only move if it is your turn, or if you are being attacked (so you can dodge). You do not have to attack in your turn, you can move into a defensive position as well. Then the next person does their turn, etc etc. A person is out when both of their arms are "dead". I only played twice today, so I was killed pretty quickly because I have the NOT best reflexes! :)
We also played Telephone charades! One person would be given a small phrase, or a two words to act out to a fellow teammate. The second teammate would then act it out to the third, and the pattern would continue until the last teammate has to guess. We ended up doing "Cling wrap", "Sumo wrestling", "Walking on the moon" as well as some others. It's a really awesome game to play with a lot of people.
All in all, today was awesome. We are having church tomorrow at the State Hospital at 10:00, so we get to start a bit later than normal.
Note: Marissa first held hands with her crush yesterday, so she owes Greta and me some M&Ms! Yaaaay. A BYU student tradition is that in developing a relationship, there are milestones that must be adhered to. They all require buying your roommates food. :) Holding hands = M&Ms or Skittles Kissing = Ice cream Becoming BF/GF = Pizza Engagement = Steaks!
Of course, there are some variations to this game, as to what food is given, not EVERYONE plays it, and I've only heard the steak rule from one person, but I agree with it. ;)
| It's been foreverrrr! Like a month. eh heh.
I'll start with my visit home, since that's pretty much where I left off. I managed to finish all my finals, and I ended up getting a 3.23 or so this semester.
I was picked up from the airport by my dad and I got to see everyone when I got home. My mom was pretty limited in her movement because of her foot surgery that I mentioned earlier. My family is currently a little obsessed with Gilmore Girls. The next day or so, I was able to spend time at Jessie's apartment.
My dad's birthday was April 21, the day that I flew in, and so we were all planning on having a picnic event at the park to celebrate. We ate food and cupcakes that Jessie made, and then ran over to the playground that was nearby. Jessie took lots of pictures of Emily and I on the swings. I held Kira in my lap as I went down one of the playground slides, and as soon as I reached the bottom, she started wailing. :] I guess she didn't like the slides.
On Friday, 2trick and I had been planning on going to Torrence for some great ramen. I told Lizzie of my plans, and so she came along as well since she had never had REAL ramen before. :) It was great fun, and I got some Japanese treats that I like, such as mochi and strawberry Calpico and MELON BREAD! :D It makes me a bit sad, because I'm pretty sure that's the last time I'm going to see 2trick for a long while, since he's heading to Japan!!
The next day was Saturday, and I was determined to meet up with Tiff because of the awesome chance that she happened to be in town on the same weekend. Cyrena was down from San Bernardino, so she and I headed over to Tiff's house and we hung out for a bit before going to DIM SUM! (As a side note, I was really happy to be getting to eat some yummy Asian grub that doesn't exist in Provo.) Lizzie showed up for lunch before she had to go to work, so I got to see her again too! :)
I spent another part of my "break" watching J-dramas because the internet at home is soooooooo much faster than the internet in the apartment complex I live in now.
~ And meanwhile, its been like three weeks into the Spring term here at BYU. There are about five weeks left already and Spring term will be over! Crazzzy. My roommates I have now, Greta and Marissa, are really fun loving and open. We click much better than I did with my older roommates for last school year. And today, I found out that we're all Geminis. Harhar. We like to invite people over to our apartment a lot to play games or eat snacks. For some reason, we're also a lot more open about sharing food with each other. I find it really weird, because they said they never really shared so much as they do now either.
My church ward is also really fun. The people are really awesome and friendly. I think the fact that it's near summer also helps a lot because people like to be outside, and so its easy to see and interact with them. I just got called to the activities committee. :) I'm going to help plan the activities for our entire ward.
I'm taking Intro to bio-organic Chemistry, which is the chemistry all the nursing majors have to take. (Not that I'm nursing) I'm also taking Nutrient Metabolism, which is the second level nutrition class. I'm also taking a flexibility course, which is a lot of fun! We do stretches in class together and sometimes take power naps so that we can learn "relaxing techiniques." But honestly, I like doing the stretches instead because I can really feel the muscles in my body strain and become less tense. I feel like this is the first time in my life I've been able to really feel the strength of a body and muscles. A slight glimpse into the "why" athletes do what they do.
Yesterday I got a haircut. I tried doing the swoop bang, and it doesn't really work with my hair. Its a side bang, but not really swoop. It's also about shoulder length now. It's been a long time since I've had short hair.
